From 17th to 19th July, 35 members of the String Orchestra, together with teachers-in-charge and 2 parents made a trip to Hong Kong to participate in the 90th anniversary summer concert of St. Paul's Co-educational College.
We presented our own gold-winning SYF pieces which won enthusiastic applause from the audience. As our conductor was unable to make it for this trip, we were led by our concert- mistress, Bernadette Goh, who did a wonderful job in leading us fluently through the two pieces. Our principal, Miss Helen Choo, who was in the audience, was also pleased with our performance. Some of us had the opportunity to play in the finale item which featured an extremely big mixed choir accompanied by a full orchestra consisting of strings, winds and percussion.

Prior to the concert in the evening, we only had two short rehearsals during the day. It was challenging for us to learn to fit into their orchestra and play alongside people we've never met before, under the baton of their conductor, Mr Joe Chan. We had to be flexible and adapt to the different style of the conductor.

On a whole, this trip was indeed an eye-opener and a once-in-a-lifetime experience that we will never forget, especially since it was our first time performing in such a world-class concert hall as the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Concert Hall. It was a fun learning journey and the valuable lessons learnt during our stay have become yet another milestone stone for the orchestra.
